Griffin Fauntleroy Monument

This monument was erected to the memory of Griffin Murdock Fauntleroy who served in the cause of American freedom from March 1776 until his death, a few days after the battle of Guilford Courthouse.

The inscription on the monument reads:

THIS SITE WAS OCCUPIED
BY THE 1ST VIRGINIA CAVALRY
UNDER LIEUTENANT COLONEL
WILLIAM WASHINGTON, CONT'L.
LINE, AND IT WAS HERE CAPTAIN
GRIFFIN FAUNTLEROY, 1ST VA.
LT. DRAGOONS, CONT'L. LINE-
WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED ON
MARCH 15, 1781.
BORN SEPTEMBER 28, 1754.
NORTHUMBERLAND CO., VA.
